About me.

I'm a full stack engineer who came to software by way of hardware. I spent five years at Hawkin Dynamics, a sports-technology company. For most of that time I was the lead mechanical engineer, designing every hardware product we shipped.

For my last 18 months there, I was full-time on the dev team, building React and TypeScript analytics, a real-time scoreboard for live testing events, and internal tools. I care about debugging, careful data handling and unit tests, because people make real decisions with the software I build.

When I step away from the keyboard, I pick up a camera.

Experience

Hawkin Dynamics

2021 – Oct 2026

Software Engineer

2025 – Oct 2026

  • Built a real-time athlete scoreboard (React, RxJS) for live testing events, with customizable palettes, up to 5 independently scrolling team columns, cycling metrics, and saved templates.
  • Created analytical reports, including a 0–100 Total Score of Athleticism with quartile grouping and a block report tracking percent change between dates with user-set thresholds.
  • Developed an internal Vue admin tool with input from sales, support, and marketing staff to manage customer data and resolve user complaints without engineering help.
  • Led the migration of a custom styled-components codebase to Chakra UI, consolidating duplicate components into reusable recipes and moving brand colors to design tokens that drive light/dark mode.
  • Audited the web app for ADA/WCAG compliance with the CTO and fixed findings during updates.
  • Improved report exports by replacing client-side PDF generation (~200 KB) with the browser’s native print/PDF dialog, cutting bundle size and improving consistency.
  • Diagnosed and resolved dozens of customer-reported data and UI issues, and wrote Jest unit tests for React components.

Lead Mechanical Engineer

2021 – 2025

  • Designed every mechanical product, including a force plate redesign that cut manufacturing cost by about 30%, and the TruStrength dynamometer with its accessory line.
  • Defined mechanical requirements for a roughly $70K force press that cut calibration time per force plate set by about 70%.
  • Wrote the internal, browser-based press calibration software that replaced a legacy C++ GUI, using linear curve-fitting for per-sensor validation and offset correction.
  • Established company-wide engineering standards, including a part-numbering system and BOM, PRD, and ECO processes, and mentored junior engineers.
